The American Black Bear (Ursus americanus) is a medium-sized bear native to North America. It is the continent’s smallest and most widely distributed bear species. Black bears are omnivores with their diets varying greatly depending on season and location. They typically live in largely forested areas, but do leave forests in search of food. Sometimes they become attracted to human communities because of the immediate availability of food. The American black bear is the world’s most common bear species. It is listed by the IUCN as least concern, due to the species’ widespread distribution and …

The tiger is the largest member of the cat family, and is renowned for its power and strength. Tigers use their striped coats as camouflage, no two tiger’s stripes are alike. A fearsome nocturnal hunter, tigers have been known to travel miles to hunt buffalo, deer, and other large mammals. The tiger is a popular cultural symbol in Asia, as well as in Western literature, often used as a symbol of solitude, ferocity, anger and mystery. The tiger’s contrasting stripes also serve as a metaphor in mythology for a duality of nature or a balance of yin and yang. Tigers appear in traditional tattoo fl…
Got to do this super fun owl tattoo on my long time client Sarah. This owl tattoo was quite fun as she let me run with it, and I decided to do something a bit different with having it in a flying pose with a bit of a folkier approach. Her original idea for the owl tattoo was to make it steampunk, complete with gears and whatnot. I have to say that I am quite relieved that we didn’t take that approach. I would love to do more tattoos like this, they rejuvenate my appreciation for the owl tattoo, which has been jaded in the past haha. More of these please! …
Here is the good wolf tattoo that was paired with the previous post. To reiterate on the wolf tattoo story, a fella named Derek came in to get two wolf tattoos: one good, and one bad. From an old native story, where a wise man explains to a young man how he has two wolves inside of him, one good and one bad, and whichever gets fed becomes stronger. This wolf tattoo was a bit different than my other approaches, as I had to make him look good, yet still have a bit of a snarling look to balance out the other wolf tattoo. I think we succeeded in that he kind of looks like he’s laughing, which defi…
I love that so many people come here for wolf tattoos. This here is on Derek, who actually got two wolf tattoos(the other photo coming soon) representing a good and a bad wolf. They derive from an old Native story where a man explains that we all have a good and a bad wolf inside of us, and whichever ones gets fed more becomes the strong alpha. This rings true in all of us, and was a really great concept for a tattoo design. Derek made it clear that he wanted a distinct dichotomy between the wolf tattoos, yet still having some sort of symmetry and elements carried throughout both pieces. I thi…
The hammerhead shark is named for the flat, laterally extended shape of its head, called a “cephalofoil.” The cephalofoil allows the hammerhead shark to see above and below at all times, giving the shark a 360 degree view of the vertical plane in front of it. Hammerhead sharks are one of the few types of shark that swim in schools, sometimes in groups of hundreds of sharks. Hammerheads leave their schools in the evening and spend their nights hunting in solitude. There are nine species of hammerheads, which range in length from three to twenty feet long, and weigh between seven and 1,300 pound…
My friend Shawn wanted a buffalo tattoo and I had asked if we could do a “white” buffalo. He was really into it. I decided on a few small flowers to frame him in. The white buffalo or bison are very spiritually significant in many Native American beliefs. They are rare and very cool. Even cooler as Shawns tattoo!! Thanks Shawn for letting me just tattoo and have fun with this one. More of these please Minneapolis…….
Mackenzie chose to get a rabbit tattoo to represent her Chinese zodiac sign, the fire rabbit. The Chinese zodiac, or Shengxiao, is a system that relates attributes of certain animals to a 12-year cycle. Although many people are aware of the animal assigned to their year in the Chinese zodiac, few are aware of the accompanying elemental sign representative of the time of year they were born; in Mackenzie’s case, a fire rabbit. I had such a good time doing this rabbit tattoo, and it was such a nice alternative to the more common astrological or zodiac symbol tattoos. I would love to draw and tat…

Posted by Jason Walstrom in Sea Wolf News on February 5th, 2013View on YouTube | Download Video with Vixy.net | Convert to MP3 We are happy to present our installment in the popular YouTube series “American Hipster Presents” American Hipster Presents is an online documentary series where they explore 10 different US cities with 5 different episodes: Music, Style, Social, Food, and Art. When they visited Minneapolis, they filmed all of us at the Sea Wolf Tattoo Company for their style episode. It was a very fun and new experience for all of us. My views on Tattooing being presented in the media have been mostly oppositional in the past, but now I’m finding more and more fi…
