Wycinanki is the art of Polish paper cutting. Beth got this wycinanki tattoo with needles, thread and scissors worked into it because she loves to sew and knit. Wycinanki is a Polish tradition that was popular in the 1800’s. Originally, shepherds cut patterns out of leather and tree bark. Colorful and intricate wycinanki were hung in windows, glued to furniture and walls, and given as gifts. The paper can be layered to create a multi-colored design as well as punched and carved to create a more intricate pattern. Popular imagery for wycinanki includes flowers, peacocks and roosters. Thanks Beth, I had a really good time designing and doing this wycinanki tattoo for you!
