This tattoo is based on a common traditional tattoo image of the “Rose of No Man’s Land” which is based on a song. Both the song and the image commemorate the Red Cross nurses who aided soldiers in the first world war. This one was juxtaposed with a gypsy, where typically you would find the head/face of a Red Cross nurse.
