Spiders of the genus Latrodectus are called black widows, because the females kill and consume males during mating rituals. In popular culture, women who murder their spouse or husband are also known as “black widows.” While this girl doesn’t seem to threaten violence, the idea of her having spun a web suggests perhaps she has set a trap to catch a man. The image of a beautiful girl with a cobweb behind her was popular in old tattoo flash, a riff on the “man’s ruin” tattoos that were also very popular. Levi brought in a piece of vintage flash that we based this tattoo off, it was a really fun project to redraw it, but still keep it classic and timeless. I would love to do more tattoos like this cobweb girl tattoo, tattoos of pretty girls are so fun!
