I got to do this Aloha Family tattoo, based on a Sailor Jerry design, on my friend Nori. In the Hawaiian language, ‘aloha’ means affection, peace, compassion and mercy. It only came to mean ‘hello’ and ‘goodbye’ in the 19th century when it was incorporated into the English language. In Hawaii, someone can be said to show or have aloha in the way they treat others, whether family, friend, neighbor or stranger. This classic Sailor Jerry design seems to capture a little piece of paradise for the wearer, wherever they may end up after leaving the shop. Thanks, Nori!
