Russian doll, also know as Matryoshka tattooed by Gentle Jay Rode. I love doing this kind of detailed work. For this russian doll tattoo I visited the russian arts museum in Minneapolis. Lots of good tattoo reference out there if you know where to look….

We are happy to announce that we finally have new shirts. They are Navy Blue in color, with Ivory lettering, printed on 100% cotton American Apparel Unisex Tees. Sizes range from Extra Small to Extra Large. $15.00 if picked up at the shop, or $17.00 shipped anywhere in the Continental United States. Like last time, these are a limited run, and will not be made again, so get them while they last!…
Yes! I have wanted to do a Narwhal tattoo for several years now, and I am very excited with the outcome. This Narwhal tattoo is on my very dear friend, Eric. Eric got the Narwhal tattoo for two reasons, one being that they are native to the waters near his ancestry’s homeland in Finland. The other reason being that it is just such a strange looking creature. I learned a few interesting things about the Narwhal, one really interesting thing is that they mate for life, which is rather rare in the animal kingdom. Apparently the horn is actually a tooth, which acts as a sensory tool rather than a …
This was so much fun to tattoo! This Native Beauty was tattooed on my longtime client, Corey. Corey is Ojibwe, he also has the warrior with the wolf headdress tattooed on him. I have an affinity for Native themed tattoos, particularly due to their connection with classic American folk art, but also in their deep rooted tradition and history. It’s truly one of the saddest stories in our Nation’s history. The other obvious reason this was so much fun is how much this particular design lends itself to being tattooed. You can never go wrong with a classic female profile tattoo, especially with a p…
Man, we are lucky to be able to do so many cool wolf tattoos. This wolf is on Ryan, a very rad fella, and was his first tattoo. The quote is from an essay written by Aldo Leopold, about his experience during a wolf hunt. The fierce green fire is what he saw as the life left the wolf. the essay is about Man’s insatiable need to rearrange nature to fit his needs, rather than adapt alongside nature. He spoke highly of wolves and that was the first and last time he took one’s life…quite fitting for what is currently going on in Minnesota, and the rest of the US, with the wolf hunt. We at the Sea…
Here we have a Great Blue Heron tattoo on Sara. Somehow I get to do a Great Blue Heron tattoo several times a year. It’s funny, I was asking Mimi if she had ever done a single Great Blue Heron tattoo, to which her answer was no. This is probably my 4th or 5th in the last 2 years. Anyways, I had a lot of fun with this one as I was able to play around with the feather patterns on the wing and back. I’ve been very fortunate lately to have such cool clients who allow me to run with these designs and try new things. Feels like Progress. Thanks to Sara for letting me do one more fun Great Blue Heron…
Minnesota has the largest wolf population in the lower 48 states, with an estimated 3,000 wolves residing in our state (MN DNR). When wolves were removed from the federal threatened and endangered species, wolf population management became the responsibility of individual states. The MN DNR decided this year to manage our wolf population by enabling hunters to buy permits to hunt wolves in two seasons this winter. Since the wolf hunt began in November, there has been outcry from animal rights activists across the state. Ojibwe tribal members have declared the White Earth Indian Reservation off…
I got to tattoo this owl girl over the Thanksgiving weekend. Lately I’ve really enjoyed incorporating bright colors and patterns into my work, and I was really happy with how this one came out. It’s wonderful to work with clients who have an idea of what they want but encourage you to be creative with the execution!…

Here we have a lady dancing with a tiger tattooed on Klecko. This was originally a Ralph Johnstone design, who was a tattooer in the mid 1900′s. We have several of his flash designs available at the shop. His stuff stuck out with me quite a bit, notably his ladies, which were painted with much more detail than many of his peers at the time. I would very much enjoy reproducing more of his flash in the very near future. This tattoo is on Danny Klecko, head baker of Saint Agnes Bakery and all around stand up guy. He has got to be our number one client, and has at least one third of the tattoos in…
